Terrarium after remake by Zoe Carlini — layered substrate visible through glass, Fittonia, Gynura and emerald moss, lush and full

Terrarium Remake Service in Addlestone, Surrey

Every terrarium has a life cycle. Plants grow, moss fades, substrate breaks down. When the planting has run its course, the glass is usually still beautiful. And beautiful glass deserves a second life.

Zoe Carlini offers a terrarium remake service from her studio in Addlestone, Surrey. She takes tired or struggling terrariums, strips them back to the glass, and rebuilds them from scratch with fresh plants, new substrate and moss. The result is a terrarium that looks new inside glass that already has its own history.

Remakes start from £45. Drop off to Addlestone, or a collect and return service is available within approximately 30 minutes’ drive for an additional fee.

What Is the Terrarium Remake Service?

A remake is a full rebuild. Zoe removes everything from the terrarium down to the bare glass, assesses what (if anything) is worth keeping, and builds it back up from the foundation using a drainage layer, activated charcoal, and a terrarium-specific soil mix. Then come the plants, the moss, and any finishing details.

It is not a top-up or a tidy. It is the terrarium starting over, inside glass you already love.

What Is Included in a Remake?

  • Full removal of existing substrate, plants, and moss
  • Fresh drainage layer and activated charcoal
  • New terrarium-specific soil mix
  • New plants selected to suit the size and shape of the glass
  • Moss and finishing details
  • Care guidance for the new planting

For closed terrariums, Zoe uses plants that thrive in humidity: fittonias, selaginella, and similar. For open terrariums she works with arid varieties; succulents and air plants that prefer airflow.

Before and After

Zoe documents her remake work on her Instagram (@bluesquidcreation), where you can see before and after results. Every remake is different; the glass, the plants chosen, and the finishing details vary each time.

Can you remake a terrarium I did not buy from Blue Squid Creation?

Yes. Zoe remakes terrariums regardless of where they originally came from. As long as the glass is intact and workable, she can rebuild it.

What if all the plants in my terrarium have died?

No problem at all. A completely empty terrarium is actually easier to work with. Zoe will take everything out down to the glass and start fresh.

Do I need to bring my terrarium to you?

You can drop off and collect from Zoe’s Addlestone address. If you are within approximately 30 minutes’ drive, a collect and return service is also available for an additional fee.

How long will the remake take?

Most remakes are turned around within a few days. Zoe will give you a timescale when you send in the details.

How much does a terrarium remake cost?

Remakes start from £45. The final price depends on the size of the terrarium and the plants and materials chosen. Get in touch with a photo for a quote.
